电影中世界的中心、哪怕是矛盾的产生也只是关于有色人种，展示是对种族问题看法的悖论：充满了风情的乡间像马克吐温笔下的世外桃源，这里的一切都是非洲裔作为主导，与之对应“进城”/跨越到现代当下，黑白同坐咖啡厅就餐仿佛歧视斗争的历史不曾发生过；而至介绍祖父Augustine油画中18世纪所流行的弯曲、染白发饰出现时，才能感受到对于身份的迷茫：非洲裔在社会中所认同的文化与肤色不同步的矛盾
黑人性转版罗密欧与朱丽叶Rom-com。写诗谈情，也要讨论race，class，black history，feminism。家族矛盾指的是黑人内部种族和阶级分裂。可以说很特别，并没有在别的浪漫爱情轻喜剧中看到过沉重的历史和社会问题，两人的结合又弱化了这些问题和矛盾，加重浪漫色彩。摄影和色彩很美，然而有时候像MV。
